We traditionally start our player tests by looking at the settings. At the time of publication, version 1.07 was available on the Asus website, which we downloaded and installed.Īfter the firmware, the player offered to select the language and set the time. We started our tests by updating the player's firmware. To call additional functions (switching audio tracks, subtitles, exit to the DVD menu) use a separate button "Options". But their location is not quite usual (like in previous Asus players), but you can get used to it. The remote control fits well in the hand, the keys are large, they are pressed distinctly. The package includes: player and remote control, cable and power supply, cable for composite connection + analog stereo sound, documentation, HDMI cable. HDMI (digital video and audio signals), composite video output, SPDIF optical digital output, stereo audio output MP3, WMA, WAV, ACC, OCG, FLAC, Dolby Digital AC3, DTS Digital Surround, PCM / LPCM, Dolby TrueHD, ID3 Tag Asus O! Play Mini Specifications (Manufacturer Information)įormats: MPEG1 / 2/4, H.264, VC-1, RM / RMVB, WMV9. However, you should hardly expect such functions from the Mini player.

It is a pity that the manufacturer did not provide the ability to connect via the component output or, at least, via SCART or S-Video, since the Realtek chipset has such capabilities. And if you have a decent analog model, then you will have to be content with the composite output - the least quality one.

That is, you can only get the full picture quality on a modern LCD TV. The player allows you to connect modern flat-panel TVs via HDMI interface, and for older analog TVs, only composite output is available. All other interfaces are moved to back panel(left to right): Power jack, composite video output and stereo analog audio outputs (RCA), HDMI 1.3 output, optical digital audio output, reset key. The front panel houses a dull blue power indicator, the aforementioned USB 2.0 port and an SD / MMC / MS / xD card reader. Installation inside a hard disk is not provided, you can only connect an external hard drive through a single USB port 2.0. The Asus O! Play Mini player is very compact, 151 x 106 x 29 mm and weighs 175 g. It does not support the network, but we had very high expectations about other functions.

This time we received the first player based on the new lightweight version of the Realtek 1055 chipset. Both players were based on the Realtek 1073 chipset and left a positive impression. We have already tested two networked media players from Asus: HDP-R1 and HDP-R3.
